Environmental Policy
Collison Motoring Services is committed to safeguarding the environment wherever possible. This policy is a formal declaration that Collisons will continue to exceed statutory expectations in the formation of environmental procedures and continually review and pass good practice within the Company. Employees are educated in waste reduction and environmental protection issues with a particular focus on their day to day activities in order to reduce pollution, emissions and waste. Also the Company's progress in environmental awareness is regularly reviewed (at least annually) and all suggestions for improvement are considered and adopted where appropriate.
As a minimum practically this means that:
- Despite the nature of the Company's business, wherever possible unnecessary driving of vehicles is limited, and trips are planned and combined in order to reduce the exhaust products. For example, the necessary road-testing of vehicles is combined with the collection of other vehicles, or collecting employees after they have delivered a vehicle back to the owner.
- Packaging is reused or recycled where services exist. At present this means that all paper and cardboard products are reused or shredded and then recycled. Workshop products are disposed of in the correct manner through approved agencies and reused / recycled as best practice dictates.
- Waste is minimised wherever possible through the purchase of more durable products (fabric mechanics gloves rather than disposable, and plastic bins for parts rather than multiple cardboard boxes for example), and the avoidance of disposable packaging for products which leave the premises.
- Water and energy are used efficiently, so that computers, lights and electrical products are on timers or turned off overnight and when not required during the day.
- Stationery and consumables are bought 'wisely', using recycled products and those from sustainable sources wherever available, and from local suppliers as much as possible.
- Customers are advised with consideration for the environmental impact of their needs. This means that parts are not replaced unnecessary and systems are cleaned and rejuvenated wherever this does not prejudice the safety, performance or warranty of the vehicle.
The adoption and enforcement of these measures and those like them should help to reduce our reliance on raw materials, energy and supplies, and protect our environment to the best of our current ability. The constant review of what we can do ensures that we are acting always in the interests of the Customer, the Company, and the greater environmental good.
